"What would happen if you gave yourself the same compassion you give to everyone else?"

The pace and intensity of New York City often don’t leave space for feeling, so perhaps you’ve felt disconnected from your thoughts, emotions, and body. You may have ongoing experiences with racism, capitalism, anti-fat bias, homophobia, or ableism, but have been unsure of what to do with the feelings. Or perhaps you have life experiences that are difficult to share and process with those around you.

In our work together, you will have a space where you can authentically connect with your experience, learn more deeply about yourself, and make strides toward the change you’re wanting in your life.

    Meet Daniel Rich, LMHC,
    Licensed Psychotherapist

I am a licensed mental health counselor who works with individuals and couples in New York City and throughout New York state. I specialize in helping the LGBTQIA+ community, healthcare professionals, those with acculturation-related concerns, and others who have been sidelined by systems of oppression. I have extensive experience with identity exploration, depressionanxiety, and trauma. My work is sex-positive, kink affirming, and polyamory competent/friendly. I also specialize in working with white people interested in examining their relationship to whiteness.

My approach is collaborative and draws from various traditions, such as Relational PsychotherapyREBT, and liberation-oriented practices, but is always personalized to center you and your needs. It is also deeply informed by principles of anti-racism, feminism, and disability justice. My style is gentle and supportive, allowing you to decide the pace of our work and what feels most important to discuss.

While your goals will determine the direction of our work, my hope is that you will:

    • Feel better connected to your emotions, body, and experience
    • Have a deeper understanding of your relationship to various systems of oppression
    • Develop a diverse toolbox of coping skills
    • Experience deeper, more meaningful relationships
    • Engage more authentically in your life

If you’re interested in learning more about how I can support you, please schedule a free consultation with me.

I also offer therapy in Arabic.

    TAKE THE NEXT STEP

Are you ready to grow and expand into the life you want?

    MY THERAPY STYLE

Therapy can be a big step, so hesitation is understandable. The fact that you’ve wondered if you might benefit from talking to someone shows you’re curious and interested in change, both of which are key ingredients in therapy! I’d recommend booking a free consultation with me or any of the Clarity therapists who seem like a good fit to discuss your concerns and see if it feels right for you.

Acknowledging differences and any discomfort or challenges we anticipate can be a great place to start. You are ultimately the expert in your own life, so I strive to work from a place of openness and curiosity, allowing you to share what you feel is important and relevant as you’re ready.

At the same time, I believe it’s essential for me to consistently do my own learning (and unlearning), examining my privilege, and considering how I participate in various systems of oppression to avoid putting you in the “teacher” role.

Listening to my body and its needs. Some days, this means staying in bed to rest, while other days, this means moving in a way that is accessible – stretching, walking, or something more fast-paced.
