OUT-OF-NETWORK INSURANCE BILLER

We’re inviting a skilled and detail-driven Out-of-Network Insurance Biller to join our team and work in close collaboration with Dana, our Director of Operations. In this full-time role, you’ll play a critical part in supporting the financial health of our thriving Manhattan-based psychotherapy group practice.

We’re seeking a candidate with a strong foundation in billing and insurance, who also brings prior experience as a Practice Manager and is motivated to continue growing in that capacity. This role offers a unique opportunity to apply and deepen leadership skills while supporting daily operations and contributing to broader strategic initiatives as the practice continues to grow.

This position is ideal for someone who brings precision, accountability, and a service-oriented mindset to their work. You take initiative with confidence, often identifying what’s needed and moving things forward before being asked. Whether it’s submitting claims, resolving billing issues, or communicating with clarity and warmth, you’re someone who finds satisfaction in making complex systems run smoothly behind the scenes.

You’ll help ensure that claims are filed cleanly, reimbursements are processed efficiently, and our team can stay focused on providing exceptional care.

Full-time, Remote, W2

Compensation

35-40 hours/weekly
$62,000–$72,000/year, commensurate with experience

Our ideal candidate will be able to make a commitment for at least one year.
Responsiblitities

Insurance and Claims Submission

  • Conduct insurance benefits lookups and provide clear, timely summaries to clients and clinicians
  • Submit out-of-network claims accurately and efficiently using Simple Practice
  • Allocate session payments and ensure client records are up-to-date and compliant
  • Communicate with therapy associates and clients regarding billing questions and reimbursement updates
  • Perform quality checks on submitted documentation to ensure successful claims processing
  • Monitor and respond to billing-related inquiries via email with clarity, professionalism, and discretion
  • Troubleshoot and track claims and insurance related issues including but not limited to: incorrect payments, recoups, 1099 issues.
  • Maintain up to date intake documents with in Practice EHR

Qualifications
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in mental health insurance billing, with preference for out-of-network expertise
  • Proficiency with Simple Practice or similar EHR platforms
  • Strong understanding of CPT codes, modifiers, ICD-10, and reimbursement guidelines
  • Familiarity with out-of-network vs. in-network billing procedures
  • Working knowledge of HIPAA regulations and confidentiality best practices
  • Clear, professional written and verbal communication
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and time management
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve billing-related issues independently
  • Experience with data entry, bookkeeping, or accounting is a plus
  • CPB or CPC certification is helpful but not required
