Meet Dr. Rachel Maize, Psy.D,
Clinical Psychologist

Hello and welcome! I am a licensed counseling psychologist who works with individuals in New York City. My expertise encompasses a wide range of concerns, including anxiety, depression, self-esteem, sleep, health, relationships, race-based stress, and life transitions.

In my therapeutic practice, I primarily draw from a cognitive perspective and take a holistic approach to well-being. I believe real growth happens when you’re both supported and gently challenged. It’s in that balance that meaningful, lasting change becomes possible.  Our sessions will be interactive, collaborative, and supportive, helping you reach the goals you want to work on, always coming from a place of kindness, openness, and humility. Together, we’ll confront the challenges you’re facing head-on, empowering you to create a fulfilling life that resonates with your values and purpose.

As a psychologist and a woman of color, I am deeply committed to integrating cultural competence into my practice. I do this by actively listening to my clients, respecting their perspectives, and honoring their cultural backgrounds.

Through my approach, you will:

  • Reflect on the impact of past experiences and thoughts on your current functioning.
  • Gain a deeper understanding of yourself and insights into your behavior.
  • Develop tangible skills to help you cope and overcome with your current challenges.
  • Live more in alignment with your values and overall purpose.

Whether you’re seeking therapy for clarity, support, or personal growth, I am grateful to have the opportunity to be on this journey with you.

I encourage you to reach out today for a complimentary 30-minute phone session so that we can get to know each other.

TAKE THE NEXT STEP

Are you ready to grow and expand into the life you want?

MY THERAPY STYLE

I enjoy working with clients who are open-minded, motivated, flexible, and, most importantly, willing to help build a foundation of trust in therapy. Therapy is deeply intimate and personal, and without trust, it cannot be effective. When this foundation is built on open communication, mutual respect, and honesty, it can open the door to transformation and healing.

Growing up as a military brat gave me a unique perspective on mental health and its impact on people. Traveling across multiple countries and engaging with different cultures has fueled my desire to learn more about people and connect with them. I observed how people manage various stressors, grief, medical illnesses, and other challenges in different ways. These experiences have shaped my commitment to becoming a psychologist, as I am drawn to working alongside people as they navigate the various experiences life presents. This is an enriching journey for me.

Therapy can be challenging and intimidating, as it is a deeply personal experience.  It requires a level of vulnerability that many people find uncomfortable. However, one of my favorite quotes is, “Do it even if you’re afraid; it will likely be what you need,” which highlights that while there is a risk, it often leads to growth. Having a professional support you on this journey can be invaluable, especially in navigating challenges while you create the life you want.
