    Meet Kristin Anderson, LCSW,
    Clinical Director + Licensed Psychotherapist

What if you were finally able to break free from self-defeating behaviors that no longer serve you? How might your life look if sadness, resentment, and pain from the past didn’t spill over into your daily life?

I help people heal emotional wounds so that they can thrive in the present without negativity of the past weighing them down. I believe it’s never too late to re-write your own story. By creating meaning from challenging life events you will begin to free yourself of anger, trauma, and hurt and create a life where you instead prioritize joy and satisfaction.

With the help of practical tools you’ll learn how to successfully manage anxiety and depression before troubling symptoms have a chance to take hold. Together we’ll explore new ways of coping which will allow you to feel more confident, self-compassionate, and balanced in your life. As we work to heal past wounds you’ll notice other areas of your life begin to improve – the communication and quality of your relationships, your ability to manage and react to stressful situations, and how you think about yourself.

I draw heavily from cognitive behavioral (CBT) and psychodynamic techniques, with an emphasis on both practical tools as well as attention to deeper emotions. I also intertwine elements of other modalities including mindfulness and meditation techniques. I also am trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) for the treatment of anxiety, depression, and traumatic experiences. Regardless of your concern, I tailor my approach depending on the challenges you’re facing to best meet you where you are.

    MY THERAPY STYLE

Starting therapy can take courage and a little leap of faith to start out. Walking into the room and sitting with a therapist requires a level of vulnerability that you may not have experienced before. But, as all things in life, it’s the experiences where we allow ourselves to be open, authentic, and vulnerable that give us the greatest opportunities for growth. Therapy provides a warm, empathetic and safe space to explore whatever it is that you are struggling with and find new ways of living.

You’ve already taken the first step forward by landing here. I encourage you to reach out so that we can take the next step together.

The best part of the work for me is seeing genuine progress and healing in my clients. Seeing clients achieve the goals that they have set for themselves is a wonderful experience. Very often, as a therapist, I may be one of the people who most fully understand the progress that a client has made and what their successes mean for them. My job allows me to act as a client’s biggest cheerleader, genuinely celebrate their successes, and help remind them of how far they’ve come. Sometimes, depending on the need of the client, specific tasks can be useful.

I’m an out-of-network provider, meaning I’m not in-network with any insurance panel. I do, however, help clients navigate accessing their insurance benefits and I submit claims for service directly to insurance companies. If you’re unsure about your out-of-network benefits, feel free to reach out and we can figure them out together.

My own style of participation is not one-size-fits-all. With some clients, I act as a sounding board and provide a space to discuss whatever it is that they are struggling with. With these clients, I take the backseat on our journey together. For most clients, however, I provide much more active participation. I dive into the work with the client and help them to explore new ways of coping and living. I try to help clients to look at things from multiple viewpoints and highlight things they may be missing. Before starting work with a client, I believe it’s important to have a conversation about what is most useful for the specific client so that we can work most efficiently together.

It’s important that clients bring what we are discussing in the room out of the room and into their lives. Sometimes, in order to facilitate this, I may suggest activities or habits to keep when not in session. In general, however, my work focuses more on insight and the internal work rather than homework assignments.

I believe that the most important part of therapy is the human connection between client and therapist. At the same time, the relationship between client and therapist is, of course, not completely reciprocal. In my work, I strive to remain genuine and authentic with my clients while still maintaining the boundaries set by the therapeutic relationship.
